Children’s reactions to swastika (and other symbols for the first time)
pubblicato il 10 gennaio 2017 alle ore 17:03
These children have been made to look at some symbols for the first time in their life. Swastika, hammer and sickle, Celtic cross, star of David, the flag of ISIS (just to give some examples) have a strong evocative power for an adult, racalling past and present wars, hopes, fears and also great part of the most recent history. A child, instead, sees them as a neutral universe, yet to be interpreted. Our semiotic experiment starts from the basis of the sign, before it takes on its historical heritage and its meaning, in other words, before it turns from signifier to real symbol. Through children’s answers we will find out how they were able to feel (as sort of prophecy) the negativity of some of the symbols and, sometimes, even to indicate details which are very close to what happened in history.
